Can NCAA Athletes Use CBD?
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is known for having the highest marijuana testing threshold among athletic organizations. The NCAA Banned Drugs List does not include CBD, but the rules state that “any substance which is chemically similar to any of the classes above, even if they are not listed as examples, is also prohibited.”
In December 2017, the NCAA approved a recommendation to adopt the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) list of prohibited drugs, which did not include CBD. However, implementing this recommendation will require the support of the NCAA’s governing members.
